How does it work exactly?

The way sealed deck is supposed to work is each player/team gets a different random skillset every time they play. This every day/week/month crap already sounds unappealing to me.

That's a great idea. Imo the whiners to that idea are the same people who increase degenerate play.

Think along the lines of the costume brawl. This is the way it has sounded so far, except with maybe a few builds per profession and a few variable skill choices per build.

Hopefully it's not true, but that is what has been related to me by a few people I don't feel I have the right to mention. Actually, I think Linsey has said something about once a week build changes as well (I'll go look for it in a sec).

At the very least, it seems that there will be a few preset builds per week with a few variable skills....which you're right....is not SD.

So will there be skill trading or not?

I'm all on for a daily deck. However, given how the zquests and Nicholas work, I'm guessing they have some sort of problem at randomizing this kind of events.

My bet is that they will pick a number of sealed decks by hand and they will be rotating, like everything else in this game is. If this is the case, the rotation will rather be weakly instead of daily, simply due to the sheer number of decks needed to construct a decent daily loop.

If this is the case (and I certainly hope not), this arena will be interesting to play only the day of the week the new deck is given, and only as long as the loop lasts. When the repeated decks start to show up, everyone and their cat will be playing the same pvx degenerated meta that ANet is trying to specifically avoid with this new format.

Let's just hope I'm wrong with this.

The best answer is: We don't know yet.

The scary/most possible answer is: No.

I'm sorry, but a big part of sealed deck is to have all the imba skills unusable/banned from play, if you have ever played it (more than once) there are cases where most players don't even take an elite...Other times, you get a good elite and lolrape the other team.

The point of sealed deck is to force the team to think of a working team build with a certain amount of skills given, which can be very 'el oh el,' and 'terrible,' but it is always fun...

I kinda wish they'd do this to RA as well.... the idiots there need their builds pre crafted for them to stop the retarsanity and griefing i see in there. Maybe they should up the TA team limit to 6v6 and have auto tourneys in there or something, delete RA for "random" sealed teams(like the costume brawl) and HB for formed sealed teams... I dunno...

I'm not sure I totally get the change to TA/HB either, are they reworking both arenas to the new format or are they taking one out entirely or is one still going to feature AI or what...

TA/HB are both being entirely removed from the game. They will just use some of the HB maps for SD.

Btw, I hate your idea about SD in RA. There's something to be said to letting people make their own builds.

a completely random set of skills for each player/team is unbalanced, since one player/team might get a bunch of good skills, and the other get crap.

i've participated in sealed deck tournaments, and it typically goes like this:

- 3-5 random decks are generated for each session, using some algorithm that i don't know. these decks are ordered acording to their effectiveness, so deck 1 would be better than deck 2, and so on

- you are limited by the maximum amount of skills you can draw from each deck. so for instance, you can draw all 8 skills from deck 3, two skills from deck 2, and only 1 skill (excluding the elite) from deck 1

- you are allowed one "wild card" skill for every build. this skill is NOT from any of the decks available, and can be ANY skill that you want. you are allowed for only one though. in a full 8v8 sealed deck tournament, the wild card skills are announced publicly, so everyone knows what they are

my memory is kinda blurry, so i might be wrong on a few details. but the above is generally how it goes.

now, the easiest way to implement this, is to have 20 or so predefined decks, and just rotate in three random decks every day. if this is team based, each team would get a skill selection window, where they can make their builds and pick their wildcard. before every match, both teams will see the wild card skills.

Sounds like fun to me

I'll definitely give it a try.

That is generally how I've heard they're going to do it...except the decks will only change once a week...which is bad.

I guess they have to give folk enough time to figure out a bar from the deck or something, kinda like a weekly meta I guess...

Also there's nothing to be said about letting people make their own builds when they take oath shot nukers and 55 monks.... screw RA...

If RA were like SD as you suggested earlier, then there would be no 4v4 arena that allows you to take your own builds. That's bad.

If you hate RA so much, then I suggest trying higher end PvP. I like floating between HA, RA, FA, GvG, AB, etc. I like the variety. Imo, just stop playing RA if you hate it

as in trading between the 2 teams? I hope not, then it just becomes a protracted bargaining session....instead of actually fighting

Anyways, a sealed deck in it's true form is a random set each game. Which is what I'd like, because then it's about skill, tactics, and imagination. If it's once a week reshuffle, then after day 1 there will be a meta and things will degenerate to the current status of TA. Random each game definitely levels the playing field, and makes it interesting and exciting.

Have you ever played sealed deck in the game it was invented (MTG)? You would know that it almost never goes like this in real sealed deck. Yes everybody has different decks and some are better than others, but the better players still end up winning 90% of the time. The entire point and fun of sealed deck is the random crap or good stuff you will get to face up against random crap or good stuff you have no idea what it will be.

Dude...what you described is not sealed deck at all. It is a really bad watered down version of sealed deck with a bunch of gimmicky stuff designed to make it better when it will only make it worse. Mark my words right now.

My excitement to play the format just dropped about 90%.

True, but I think they're not capable of pulling off something like that so late in the life of the game with so few recources. We'll see ofcourse.
